The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting today on violence-wracked Yemen after US troops were evacuated from a key airbase.
The meeting will take place at the request of embattled Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, following the death of 142 people on Friday when several suicide bombings were carried out at Shiite Huthi mosques.
The bomb attacks have been claimed by the Sunni Islamic State.
US officials announced yesterday that remaining personnel, including about 100 special operations forces, would be evacuated from Yemen due to the deteriorating security situation there.
