Hundreds of people have attended the funerals of 19-year-old Niamh Doyle and 19-year-old Ashling Middleton, two of four women who died in a car crash near Athy on Tuesday night.

The funeral of Niamh Doyle took place in Askea Church in Carlow. Chief mourners included her parents, Ber and Veronica, her sister Louise, brother Kevin, boyfriend Shane and extended family.

The congregation was told that a darkness overpowered the parish on Tuesday with the deaths of the four young women.

Niamh was a student at Waterford IT and the mourners heard about her love of art and music.

The funeral of Ashling Middleton took place this afternoon at the Church of the Irish Martyrs, Ballycane, Naas.

The funerals of  the two other women who lost their lives in the crash, Gemma Nolan and Chermaine Carroll, were held yesterday.
