The Department of Social Protection has confirmed that social welfare payments, which are made by electronic fund transfer directly to people's accounts, will be delayed by one day due to what it has called a "once off processing issue".
Around 32,700 people, who would normally get their payment today, will not receive their payment until 8am tomorrow.
15 social welfare payments are affected, including the domiciliary care allowance, illness benefit, jobseeker's benefit and jobseeker's allowance.
Principal Officer with the department Sean Reilly has sincerely apologised for the inconvenience caused.
Speaking on RTÉ's News At One, Mr Reilly said the majority of people affected, just over 17,000, are in receipt of the domiciliary care allowance.
He said that it will also impact just over 11,000 people expecting their illness benefit payments today.
The numbers of people affected are much smaller for the remaining 13 types of payments, Mr Reilly said, with the third largest group experiencing the one-day delay being those awaiting their rent allowance payment.
