Students reprimanded for throwing eggs at Kenny

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 13 Februari 2013 | 22.40

Three UCD students have been formally reprimanded for throwing eggs at Taoiseach Enda Kenny last year.

Suszanne Lee, 23, from Belfast, Aidan Rowe, 22, from Mayo and  and Ben McCormack, 24, originally from Chichester, England were brought before a preliminary disciplinary hearing this afternoon.

The eggs failed to hit Mr Kenny during a protest over fees and cuts to student grants.

All three students received a suspended fine and will have to write an apology to Students' Union Vice-President Martin Butler, who was hit by one of the eggs.

Speaking after the hearing this afternoon, the students said they will apologise and thanked lecturers, students and members of the public who supported them.

They said they considered this a victory for students' right to protest.
