The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport has said the Government has had ongoing engagement with IAG after its earlier rejection of the airline's proposed bid for Aer Lingus a number of weeks ago.
Paschal Donohoe said they had met at the end of last week and he expects that his department will be meeting the company, headed up by Willie Walsh, again in the coming weeks.
However, he said he would not be bringing any proposal on the issue to Cabinet tomorrow.
Mr Donohoe said there was much work to do in continuing to emphasis the areas of priority for Government and in continuing to understand the approach of IAG to those areas.
He reiterated that he wanted to see the matter concluded in a few weeks.
He said the Government needed to make a final decision as this was a matter of considerable priority and importance for Aer Lingus.
"The fact that meetings were initiated shortly after my rejection of the proposed bid shows there is appetite for engagement on the areas that I stressed were very important," the Minister stated.
"While the conversations are difficult because they focus in on matters that are of grave concern to this Government and to IAG, I'd have to also so they are being conduced in a tone that is workmanlike and positive," he added.
