A 39-year-old former member of Cork City Council has pleaded guilty to three counts of soliciting a man to murder three people, including a detective garda and an official of the Revenue Commissioners.
Former Fianna Fáil councillor Gary O'Flynn was arraigned at the Circuit Criminal Court in Cork this morning.
Mr O'Flynn, of Hayfield Drive, Castlecourt, Whitechurch, Co Cork, was a member of Cork City Council from 2003 until 2008.
This morning he spoke to confirm his identity and to plead to the three counts.
The court was told that Mr O'Flynn was currently serving a jail sentence and is due for release later this month.
The State is opposing an application for bail in relation to these charges and Judge Sean Ó Donnabháin is due to decide on that issue later today.
An application for bail on behalf of Mr O'Flynn was withdrawn.
He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 22 April.
