Drivers were advised to take care with snow and ice affecting driving conditions in a number of counties this morning.
Met Éireann said snow may ease off for a period today before becoming widespread again this evening and tonight.
Some roads in Limerick were impassable due to heavy snowfall earlier today, with up to 10cm falling in the area around Ballylanders and Kilfinane.
The Kilmallock to Kilfinane road was closed by gardaí due to poor road conditions.
Gardaí in Bruff also said the road into Ardpatrick village was impassable on the Kilmallock side.
Limerick County Council said it was working to improve road conditions.
Snow also affected travel on the N20 Limerick/Cork road between Charleville and Doneraile and between Mallow and Blarney.
In Co Roscommon, driving conditions were described as slushy around Castlerea, while snow also affected roads in the Boyle area.
The N16 Sligo/Manorhamilton road was particularly snowy in Leitrim around Glencar, while snow and ice were reported around Carrick-on-Shannon.
Motorists were advised to drive with caution on secondary roads in Longford and around Mullingar, Co Westmeath due to black ice.
Snow and ice were also a problem around Bailieborough and Cavan Town, as well as around Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
