Two people die in Cork and Dublin crashes

Two people have died in separate crashes in Cork and Dublin.

A pedestrian died after being struck by a car on James's Street in Dublin overnight.

The incident happened close to Steeven's Lane at about 2.40am.

The 62-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 58-year-old driving the car is being treated in St James's Hospital for minor injuries.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Kilmainham on 01-6669700, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any garda station.

Separately, a 19-year-old man has died after the car he was driving was in collision with another vehicle in Co Cork last night.

Gardaí are investigating the crash, which happened on the Refinery Road in Whitegate at around 6.30pm.

The driver of the second car is being treated at Cork University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
