Priest in property dispute takes time away

The priest at the centre of a property dispute with a former Franciscan friar is to 'take time away from his diocese' in Co Donegal.

In a statement to parishioners, Bishop Fleming, of the Diocese of Killala, said Fr Gabriel Rosebotham had decided to take time out 'to reflect on his life', his commitments and his ministry.

The bishop said the court case had come as a "complete shock" to him and the priests of the diocese.

He said the news had caused deep distress and sadness in the community.

Bishop Fleming said Fr Rosebotham had been a priest in the diocese for 17 years.

He was praised for his ability to relate to the young, his pastoral care, his effectiveness as a preacher, and for his singing abilities.

Bishop Fleming said he had met the priest since the case ended yesterday.
