An Offaly man has been found not guilty of recklessly causing serious harm to a Birr woman who lost the sight in her eye after she was struck by a glass during a festival in the town last year.
A jury acquitted Gary Ward, 20, of the assault charges against Marie Gauvin at Keel's Archway in Birr on 4 August 2013.
The jury also cleared Mr Ward on a third charge of producing a glass or bottle.
The jury deliberated for more than two hours and 30 minutes before returning with the first two verdicts this afternoon.
Ms Gauvin sustained serious eye injuries in the incident.
Speaking to the jurors after they had returned their third verdict, Judge Tony Hunt said it was a very tragic case for Ms Gauvin.
However, he said that did not take away from the job the jury had to do.
"There is out there somewhere an underlying truth about what happened," Judge Hunt said. "Somebody somewhere has that truth."
The judge complimented the jurors on their verdicts "in view of the difficult and horrible nature of this case you did not let your heart lead your head".
He said: "My own view is that based on the evidence you had to consider it would have been very, very hard to reach any other verdict."
