A 46-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of her two-year-old son in Ballybrack in Dublin on Thursday.
Hazel Waters with an address at Ridge Hall Apartments Shanganagh Road Ballybrack, was charged by Detective Sergeant Joe O'Hara with the murder of Muhammad Hassan Khan, at a time unknown between 15-16 October at Ridge Hall.
The court heard she was charged at Dún Laoghaire garda station last night and made no reply to the charge after being cautioned.
Dressed in a dark suit she remained motionless in the dock at Dublin District Court this morning for the brief appearance.
She was granted free legal aid after her solicitor Pádraig O'Donovan told the court her only income was a lone parent allowance.
The solicitor told the judge his client has asked not to be psychiatrically assessed, but he would ask the authorities to make their own assessment of this while she was in custody.
Judge John Coughlan remanded her in custody to appear again before the court next Wednesday.
