Monday 03 March 2014 13.56 Former Fianna Fáil junior minister Ivor Callely has pleaded guilty to making a false mobile phone expenses claim at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Mr Callely, 55 from Clontarf in Dublin, was due to go on trial later this month on six counts of making false claims.
He was charged with six counts of making false mobile phone expenses claims between 2007 and 2009.
The charges alleged that he used invoices from three phone companies as false instruments at Leinster House for the receipt of expenses for handsets and equipment under the Oireachtas members direct purchase mobile phone scheme.
Count number one was put to him this morning, alleging he used an invoice dated January 2002, as a false instrument in November 2007.
He replied "guilty".
The court was told Callely was asking for the earliest possible date to deal with the matter.
He will be sentenced on 22 July.
He was charged under Section 26 of the Theft and Fraud Offences Act.
The offences carry a punishment of a fine and or a prison sentence of up to ten years.
