Holles St baby is first born in Ireland in 2014

The first baby born in Ireland in 2014 was at the National Maternity Hospital on Holles Street in Dublin.

Baby Emily Rose Duff, weighing 3.69kg (8lbs 2oz), was born at five seconds past midnight.

Her mother Monica, from Griffith Avenue in Dublin, said she was overjoyed with the new arrival.

Two other babies were born at the hospital within the first six minutes of 2014.

A baby boy was born at 00.01am and a third baby was born at 00.06am.

The second baby of 2014 was born at the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital in Dublin.

Eloise Browne, weighing 2.86kg (6lbs 5oz), was born just 20 seconds after midnight.

Her parents Owen and Eugenia Lomax-Browne from Firhouse in Dublin said they are delighted with their new arrival. 

The first baby born outside of Dublin was at Galway University Hospital. The baby girl was born at 00.18am.

It was also a busy night on the maternity ward of Cork University Hospital.

Six babies, four girls and two boys, were born after midnight.

The first baby arrived there at 1.58am.

Cavan General Hospital also reported a busy night for newborns.
