A brother and a sister have appeared in court charged with the murder of a 63-year-old man in Dublin earlier this week.

Thomas Horan was attacked and killed at his home at a housing complex for senior citizens in Ringsend on Monday morning.

His body was found in the bedroom of his ground floor apartment at Cambridge Court.

Kenneth Cummins, 26, and 36-year-old Sabrina Cummins, both of whom live at Ringsend Park in Dublin, have been charged with murder.

They were remanded in custody at the Dublin District Court until next Thursday.

The two were brought by gardaí from Donnybrook and Irishtown stations to the Dublin District Court this morning.

Detectives Bryan Hunt and David Wogan gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.

They told the court the accused were arrested in Cabra on Wednesday afternoon, both were last night charged with the murder of Mr Horan, and neither made any reply to the charge.

Both accused were granted free legal aid and Judge Michael Walsh directed they receive appropriate medical attention in prison.
