Court told John Dundon will not testify

A man accused of the murder of Shane Geoghegan will not be giving evidence in his own defence, the Special Criminal Court has heard.

John Dundon, 30, with an address of Hyde Road in Limerick has pleaded not guilty to the murder of the rugby player at Dooradoyle in 2008.

Mr Geoghegan was shot dead on his way to his girlfriend's house in the early hours of 9 November, 2008.

The court has already heard the murder was a case of mistaken identity ordered by Mr Dundon, who had intended to kill another man.

Today the court heard that Mr Dundon will not be giving evidence in his own defence, but that two other witnesses who are in custody - Liam Casey and Nathan Killeen - will.

The trial has been adjourned until tomorrow to enable arrangements to be made for the men to be brought to court to testify.

Defence Counsel Brendan Nix also asked if one of the main prosecution witnesses, April Collins, could be recalled for further questioning.

However, the three judges refused, saying he had already had ample opportunity to cross-examine the witness.
