SIPTU votes in favour of Dublin Bus strike action

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 13 Juli 2013 | 00.30

Bus drivers at Dublin Bus belonging to SIPTU have voted overwhelmingly to take strike action if the company moves to implement a Labour Court recommendation that would permit cuts in earnings and longer working hours for some grades.

94% of drivers backed industrial action, though SIPTU members in other grades have not yet been balloted.

A spokesperson for Dublin Bus noted that other unions at the company have not yet balloted on the Labour Court recommendation.

She said that the company was not planning to implement any changes before all ballots were complete.

Meanwhile, SIPTU organiser Willie Noone has said a disagreement over Dublin Bus drivers wearing shorts has been resolved.

SIPTU's Bill Camley had written a letter to Dublin Bus management expressing concern that four staff had been disciplined for wearing shorts during the recent hot weather.

Dublin Bus denied that any staff members were suspended for wearing shorts.

Mr Noone said that the matter has been resolved, and that all drivers are working as normal.
