Around 260 jobs are to be created at the Irish operations of technology companies Yahoo and McAfee.

Yahoo plans to hire over 200 people for its Dublin offices over the next year; in the areas of customer support, technology, HR, finance and operations.

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Dan McCarthy from Yahoo Ireland said the company is going through a period of change.

He said some people have already been employed as part of the new drive.

"We have got quite assertive plans for these 200 roles so we have actively started over the last couple of weeks. We have actually some people on board now and we have significant targets to recruit these folks so we're live."

Meanwhile, security software firm McAfee will create around 60 engineering jobs at its centre in Cork.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will formally announce the jobs in California later today, where he is visiting as part of a three-day investment visit to the US west coast.

The new jobs are supported by the IDA.

Both Yahoo and McAfee are already accepting applications for the various roles online.
