A 21-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he appeared before Drogheda District Court on charges connected to the assault of a schoolboy in the town earlier this week.
The 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in the attack, which happened as he was walking home from school on Wednesday.
He remains in a stable condition in hospital.
Jamie Gallagher, with an address at Sheephouse in Drogheda, was charged with assault causing harm at Laurence Street, Drogheda.
He was also charged with producing a large silver knife in the course of a dispute in a manner likely to intimidate another person.
Detective Garda Ronan McMorrow told Judge Flann Brennan that the accused made no reply when the charges were read to him.
Gardaí objected to bail for Mr Gallagher.
Det McMorrow said their objections were based on a number of grounds, including the serious nature of the incident, it was totally unprovoked, certain admissions were made and the attack was captured on CCTV.
He also told the court that the accused was on bail at the time of the incident and that he has an admitted drink and alcohol addiction problem.
Judge Brennan refused bail and remanded Mr Gallagher in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Thursday.
