Gardaí in Co Cavan are conducting a murder investigation after a man was stabbed to death in his home early this morning.
The attack took place at around midnight in an apartment at Connolly Court in Cavan town.
It is believed two men forced their way into the man's apartment and stabbed him to death before fleeing the scene.
The victim was from Romania and was in the apartment with his partner, who witnessed the attack.
State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy arrived at the scene shortly before 1pm and is conducting a post mortem.
Garda forensic officers are also examining the scene and it remains sealed off until that is complete.
It is understood that the victim was in his early 40s and had only been living in Ireland for a few days.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information about the incident, or anyone who saw anything suspicious last night, to contact them.
