Three Nemtsov murder suspects held in custody

A Moscow court has ruled that three men suspected of involvement in the killing of Russian opposition figure Boris Nemtsov be kept in custody, Interfax news agency reported.

The three were Shagid Gubashev, Ramzan Bakhayev and Tamerlan Eskerkhano.

The court earlier ruled that Zaur Dadayev, who has been charged over the killing, be held in custody.

The court has yet to rule on the detention of a fifth man, Anzor Gubashev.

Mr Nemtsov, a long time critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was shot four times in the back as he walked close to the Kremlin.

No information has emerged as to the possible motive the men could have had in killing the 55-year-old former deputy prime minister.

His allies believe his assassination was a hit ordered by the top levels of government determined to silence dissenters.

The allegation has been strenuously denied.

The assassination sent shockwaves through the country's opposition and prompted an outpouring of international condemnation.

Investigators have suggested the killers wanted to destabilise Russia, which is facing its worst standoff with the West since the Cold War over Ukraine.

But they were also probing the possibility he was assassinated for criticising Russia's role in the Ukraine conflict or his condemnation of January's killings at the Charlie Hebdo satirical weekly in Paris by Islamist gunmen.
