Several thousand people are expected to take part in a demonstration in Cork against water charges today.
The protest is being organised by The People's Convention.
The group was set up following the last General Election, and describes itself as a movement for democracy, to assert and defend the rights of the people.
Diarmuid O'Cadhla, Secretary and PRO for the group, said the charge is one in a long line of austerity measures imposed upon Irish people, which he said is essentially to make people pay for the [financial] crisis.
He said they are opposed to these water charges, as it is a policy that is being imposed upon Irish people and he said "there is nothing democratic in it."
Mr O'Cadhla said the group is "highlighting the glaring missing democracy", and added that Ireland has a "Government which is plainly not acting according to the general will of the people."
