Lucinda Creighton has unveiled the name of Ireland's newest political party; Renua Ireland.
Speaking at the party launch at the Science Gallery in Trinity College Dublin this morning, the former Fine Gael junior minister said there is a need to liberate politics from failed policies.
Ms Creighton said Renua is different in how it is formed and funded and it is about open politics.
She said the party is open-minded, and that that is evident in the party's open position in matters of conscience.
She said the party believes in independence of thought and challenging consensus.
Ms Creighton said Renua is about offering a new kind of politics that is open for new ideas and open to scrutiny.
She said it offers a style of politics that is liberated from the burden of negativity and said she wants to engage citizens in a conversation about a new type of society that offers opportunity and solidarity.
The party announced 16 policy proposals.
Ms Creighton said the minutes of all Cabinet meetings should be published within 48 hours of the meeting. She wants to introduce term limits for government ministers.
Renua is committed to lifting the costs of childcare by transferring maternity leave into parental leave and by rolling out a national network of community-based childcare facilities.
Ms Creighton said 3,500 people have contacted Renua to get involved with the party.
Ms Creighton said 180 people want to become candidates for the party.
Ms Creighton has explained that the choice of name for her new political party was inspired by the words "new beginning".
Speaking on RTÉ's Today with Sean O Rourke she said choosing the name Renua "was a collaborative process".
She said her party is focused on having an open government policy.
"I would refer to this new policy as government in the sunshine, a completely open policy where there is no need for cabinet confidentiality, except of course for security issues."
She said: "I think it will have a massively positive impact. The idea that the masses can't be trusted with information is nonsense".
She said one of the first steps her party will take is to completely overhaul the whip system.
"A huge element is to release politics from the shackle of the whip system. It is not applied to any other democratic state globally. It stifles independent thinking and good debate and leads us to the position where we end up with failures like Irish Water."
She added that they are also committed to changing the electoral system which would require constitutional amendment.
In terms of funding, she said it is going to be difficult and a huge challenge.
"We will be relying on the goodwill and generosity of the Irish people. There is already an appetite. We will be doing it in a transparent fashion and publishing our accounts."
In relation to candidates she said she wants to see far more women in politics and will be hoping for a good gender mix in the party.
She has appealed to women who are interested in getting involved in politics to get in touch with her party.
In relation to the party's position on the upcoming referendum, she said she would personally be voting in favour of it "but others are free to make their own choice when voting".
She says the focus for the party is on the next general election.
Earlier, the deputy leader of the new party said he is not expecting any more sitting TDs to defect to the party at present.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Billy Timmins said the party was working hard to build it from the ground up.
"We are looking at offering to the public a new alternative.
"Political parties in Ireland are very fractured at the moment, and we believe that the time has come to put out an agenda of new policies which will transform, which will renew, put new faces out in front of the public."
He said that nine meetings had been held around the country to get the views of the public and to attract members.
Mr Timmins said party members would have a free vote on matters of conscience.
