A man has been arrested after the death of a 29-year-old in Dundalk, Co Louth, in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to a house in the Oaklawns area of the town at around 3.45am.

The 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 27-year-old man was arrested as part of the investigation.

Neither of the men are from Dundalk but work in the area.

They were out socialising in the town last night and a dispute broke out between them on their walk to the house.

The dispute escalated after they arrived at the house, which resulted in the 29 year old being injured.

Gardaí have not found any weapons in the house.

The scene remains sealed-off for a technical examination.

Door-to-door enquiries are being carried out.

Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis carried out a preliminary examination this morning.

The body has been removed to Our lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
