Mother charged with murder of 11-year-old daughter

A 56-year-old Tullamore woman has been charged with the murder of her 11-year-old daughter.

Bernadette Scully, with an address of Bachelor's Walk in Tullamore, appeared before a sitting of the district court in Tullamore this morning charged with the murder of Emily Barut in September 2012.

Detective Sergeant Gerry Glavin told the court that Ms Scully was arrested at her home at 9.40am this morning.

When the charge was read to her, she made no reply.

She is being remanded in custody to the Dóchas Centre and will appear again at a sitting of Tullamore District Court this Wednesday.

A solicitor for Ms Scully asked that a medical assessment be carried out on her while she is in custody.
