Two men have been arrested after an attempted burglary was foiled last night following a tip-off to gardaí from a Catholic priest in Whitehall, North Dublin.

The priest contacted gardaí after he saw a group of masked men in his front garden at around 10pm last night.

A car with false number plates was stopped a short time later and one man was arrested.

A second man was arrested following a search using garda dogs and the helicopter during which the man was discovered hiding in a nearby garden.

A fake firearm, forensic suits and balaclavas were recovered during the investigation.

The stolen car involved in the incident has been recovered.

A large portion of the grounds of Corpus Christi Church has been sealed off by gardaí following the incident.

The priest had only moved to the parish around two months ago and is said to shocked and shaken by the incident.

Gardaí are searching for a third person in relation to the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to contact Santry Garda Station 6664400.
