Food labelling comes into effect for restaurants

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 13 Desember 2014 | 22.40

New legislation on the labelling of food information to consumers comes into effect today.

This means that restaurants, cafés, takeaways, delis and other retailers providing non-prepacked food must indicate to consumers the use of any of the 14 listed allergenic ingredients in the production or preparation of food.

The list includes nuts, shellfish, soybeans, milk and eggs.

The information must be provided in a written format and the precise requirements are detailed in national legislation, which has been published by the Department of Health.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has said food businesses should be aware of any allergenic ingredients used to make foods, whether produced on the premises or purchased from an outside source.
