Corruption findings against Redmond quashed

Findings of corruption against former assistant Dublin City and County manager George Redmond have been quashed.

In the High Court, Judge Paul Gilligan heard the Mahon Tribunal had agreed to withdraw the findings regarding Mr Redmond.

The findings date to 2004 and were made in the tribunal's third interim report.

The following year Mr Redmond took an action challenging those findings.

Last July Mr Redmond won his Supreme Court appeal aimed at allowing him continue with his action.

The development came after the tribunal said it was no longer opposing the appeal.

It came following a Supreme Court finding in 2010 in separate proceedings taken against the tribunal by Joseph Murphy Structural Engineers (JMSE).

In the JMSE case, the Supreme Court found, and the tribunal conceded, that important material which might potentially have called in to question credibility of the tribunal's key prosecution witness, the late James Gogarty, had been wrongly withheld by the tribunal.

Mr Redmond, 90, was in court today. When the tribunal began he was in his 70s.
