The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission is investigating a crash in Co Kildare in which a 43-year-old woman was killed and several other people were injured.
The crash happened on the M7 motorway before 9pm last night.
The collision occurred near junction 13 between two civilian vehicles, one of which was being pursued by gardaí.
Diana Harton of Claregate Court in Co Kildare was killed in the collision.
Ms Harton was travelling in the other car, which was not connected to the pursuit.
Gardaí were initially contacted when a car travelling towards Dublin, with five male occupants, broke through the toll bridge near Portlaoise without paying.
Up to three garda cars followed the car, two of them unmarked and one patrol car, with sirens on.
The car continued to drive at speed towards Dublin.
At junction 13, Ms Harton in her Citroën car came from the Kildare junction and drove onto the motorway.
Her car was hit on the side by the men's car in a high-speed collision. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The five males travelling in the other car, including a boy of 13, were taken to Naas and Tallaght hospitals.
Their injuries are serious but not thought to be life-threatening.
Two gardaí were treated for minor injuries and shock. They were discharged from hospital overnight.
Gardaí had earlier received reports of a number of burglaries in Co Tipperary.
They are investigating if the occupants of the car are linked to those incidents.
GSOC said a team of investigators was deployed to the scene, following referral of the incident by gardaí.
It has appealed for witnesses, or anyone with information that may assist the investigation, to contact the commission.
