A 36-year-old nurse has been sentenced to life in prison after she was found guilty of murdering her mother on Christmas Eve four years ago.
Greta Dudko of Station Court Hall, Clonsilla in Dublin had admitted the manslaughter of Anna Butautiene, 55, but had denied a charge of murder.
A jury at the Central Criminal Court found her guilty of murder by majority verdict.
Dudko's mother had moved to Ireland from Lithuania to help her care for her son.
The 36-year-old nurse had an alcohol problem and had been suspended from her job.
She said her mother encouraged her to leave her husband and move to an apartment with her in the run-up to Christmas four years ago.
On Christmas Eve, her husband took their son to his home because Dudko was drunk.
When her mother returned home to find her grandson gone, the pair had an argument and Mrs Butautienne was hit with a bottle.
Dudko had pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied a charge of murder.
Her lawyers said she was so intoxicated she could not have intended to kill her mother.
However, the prosecution said the evidence showed Dudko wanted her mother exterminated from her life.
After deliberating for four-and-a-half hours since yesterday, the jury found her guilty of murder by majority verdict.
She was jailed for life.
