Google has said it has received 1,443 requests from people in Ireland seeking the removal of certain search results relating to them since an EU court copper-fastened the legal "right to be forgotten" in May.

The requests related to a total of 4,175 links, 30% of which have been removed and the balance of which have not.

According to the new figures, published today by the search engine, it has received a total of 144,954 requests from across Europe, and has evaluated 497,695 links for removal during the same period.

Google said 42% of the links have been removed, while the remainder have been left alone.

Across Europe, links to Facebook pages were the most commonly removed, followed by links to profileengine.com, YouTube and badoo.com.

The Transparency Report also lists a number of examples of the types of requests that have been made.

The largest number of requests, 18,304, came from the UK, relating to 63,606 URLs.

One request in Italy, for example, came from a woman who asked that a decades-old article about her husband's murder, which included her name, be removed and it has been.

A Swiss financial professional asked the company to remove more than ten links to pages reporting on his arrest and conviction for financial crimes.

It declined to remove the pages from the search results.

Google's official request process, set up in the wake of the European Court of Justice ruling in the Mario Costeja González case, began on 29 May 2014.
