A Co Galway skipper has been found guilty of two counts of falsely declaring the amount of fish he caught on fishing trips in November 2003.
However, the jury in the trial of Sean Flaherty, from Rossaveal, found him not guilty of another charge.
It failed to agree a verdict on a fourth alleged breach of fishing regulations.
Flaherty, 64, pleaded not guilty to all four charges of failing to make accurate landing declarations of catch after fishing trips between November 2003 and January 2004.
It was alleged that he had committed the offences in Killybegs, Co Donegal after landing herring from his fishing boat Glor na dTonn.
In November 2004, gardaí raided Flaherty's home and the Galway and Aran Fishermen's Co-op and seized a number of documents.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with four offences.
The jury found Flaherty guilty of two offences after a trial lasting more than a week.
It found that on one occasion his logbook declared that he had landed four tonnes of herring, but the sales records indicated that more than 40 tonnes of herring was landed.
He was also found guilty in relation to a logbook record that indicated that five tonnes of herring had been landed, but sales records showed that 31 tonnes had been landed.
The jury failed to reach agreement on the final charge in which Flaherty was alleged to have declared a catch of 2.5 tonnes of herring, but business records indicated a total landing of almost 80 tonnes.
He was found not guilty in relation to one charge.
