Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said the issues raised by the recent 'Y' case would not be revisited during the lifetime of this Government.
Speaking on Newstalk, Mr Kenny was asked about the case in which the pregnancy of a woman was ended by a Caesearean section after she was refused permission to have an abortion.
The young woman says she was raped and became suicidal and sought an abortion in the early stages of pregnancy.
Three consultants certified that a termination of pregnancy should take place, with the baby being delivered early by Caesearean section at around 25 weeks.
The Taoiseach said Minister for Health Leo Varadkar had commissioned a report in respect of the case and he would like to see the full facts before he commented further.
Mr Kenny added said there had been exhaustive discussions before the Government legislated for the Supreme Court's decision in the 'X' case, and said that he fully understood the sensitivity of cases involving fatal foetal abnormalities.
