Dublin GAA footballer in knife attack

Dublin GAA football star Jonny Cooper is recovering in hospital after he was the victim of a knife attack in the capital in the early hours of this morning.

The Na Fianna defender is believed to have been assaulted on Dorset Street on the north side of the city at around 5am.

The 24-year-old was brought to the Mater Hospital for treatment where his injuries are said not to be life-threatening.

Jonny's father Brendan Cooper said on Facebook today: "Jonathan is recovering well and is expected to be released later this afternoon."

Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

We can confirm that Johnny Cooper was injured in an incident that is under Garda investigation, we would like to wish him a speedy recovery.

Cooper had played for his club on Friday night as they were knocked out of the Dublin Senior Football Championship by Templeogue Synge Street.
