Inland Fisheries board inspectors are to hold meetings over the next three days, to decide on an emergency plan to eliminate a dangerous invasive species that is threatening fish stocks on the river Shannon.
A notorious shellfish from Asia was discovered in hot water beside the Lough Ree Power plant at Lanesborough in Co Longford.
The Angling council of Ireland says it has the potential to wipe out the coarse fishing sector on Lough Ree.
The ESB is also continuing to monitor any bio-fouling effect the clam might have on the operations of pipes at the nearby power station.
Fisheries inspectors and all the other state agencies are meeting on Monday for urgent talks in Lanesborough, on how to remove thousands of clams from the water, before they multiply and spread to the entire lake system.
