Friday 22 August 2014 16.12 A warrant has been ordered for the re-arrest of Limerick criminal Eddie Ryan Junior following a Supreme Court ruling that he was not entitled to early release under Article 40 of the Constitution.
The Supreme Court has instead given permission for him to seek a judicial review of the Minister for Justice's decision not to grant him remission.
In their judgment the panel of three judges said the "special and extraordinary features of the Article 40 procedures are not required for the examination of this complaint".
Eddie Ryan and his brother, Kieran, were jailed in 2010 after pleading guilty to possession of a high-powered firearm and ammunition in the city.
He was sentenced to six years imprisonment in the Midlands Prison.
Ryan is the son of Eddie Ryan Senior who was shot dead in the Moose Bar in Limerick in November 2000.
