A man has died after a shooting in a house in Saggart in Co Dublin.

He has been named as 45-year-old Andy Connors.

The shooting happened at around 11pm last night in Boherboy.

Gardaí say a man wearing a balaclava entered through an open door in the house and shot Mr Connors a number of times in the upper body.

Mr Connors' wife, four children and a niece were in the house at the time. The children are aged between eight and 15.

He was taken to Tallaght Hospital after the shooting, and pronounced dead just before midnight.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow.

Mr Connors had previously been investigated by the Criminal Assets Bureau, and had convictions for burglary and theft.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who saw unusual activity in the area last night between 10pm and 11pm to contact Tallaght Garda Station on 01 666 6000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

They are also seeking information about a private function in Monasterevin that Mr Connors attended last night.
