An Irishwoman travelling in outback Australia has been charged with hiding the body of her newborn baby.
The 25-year-old backpacker was charged with "concealing the birth of a child that died before or after birth", police in Western Australia told ABC News.
The woman had been travelling in the remote Kimberley region in North Western Australia with friends.
It is reported that she had not realised she was pregnant.
She gave birth in May, while alone in the town of Halls Creek.
It is alleged the Irishwoman hid the newborn and did not tell her friends what had happened until days later.
Her friends then took her to a hospital, where staff notified police.
Western Australia's major crime squad was called in to investigate the death of the baby and charged the woman with concealing the birth.
The woman appeared at Kununurra Magistrates Court at the end of May when the case was referred to Perth Magistrates Court, where she is due to appear in October.
The woman has not entered a plea.
