Independent News and Media has announced that it is merging editorial functions of the Sunday World and the Herald newspapers.
It will introduce a voluntary redundancy programme as part of the reorganisation.
The company said it is creating what it calls a 'Digital First' content centre to which reporters will file to optimise its news offering.
It said the editorial reorganisation is being undertaken to "future-proof" both titles.
The initiative is part of the overall ongoing group re-organisation of INM.
"This is a fundamental restructuring of the production and reporting process by taking advantage of new systems, improvements and work-flows that have already been successfully introduced across the Irish Independent, Sunday Independent and The Herald," said Stephen Rae, Editor-In-Chief.
"This approach, based on an audience-first strategy, will also ensure the continued uniqueness and identity of The Sunday World and The Herald."
