Saturday 02 August 2014 15.12 Dublin City Council's flood risk assessment group is meeting this afternoon after heavy rain overnight, with more rain expected.
A spokesperson for Dublin City Council said 85mm of rain fell in some parts of the city overnight, with Ballymun worst affected.
He said that while there was some road flooding, there were no major incidents or evacuations.
The spokesperson said they are in a state of readiness ahead of tonight's expected rainfall.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange weather warning for Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan.
It says heavy rain, 25-40mm, fell before 6am and a further 40-60mm is likely to fall by 6am tomorrow.
It warns of some localised flooding.
Met Éireann has also issued a Status Yellow warning for Tipperary and Waterford.
30-50mm of rain is likely to accumulate in places by 6am tomorrow, with a risk of some flooding.
Gardaí in Dublin have appealed to motorists to be extra careful on the roads due to excess surface water.
Several minor road accidents have been reported.
A number of roads were closed in Dublin this morning because of flooding.
Meanwhile, two people being held in Ballymun Garda Station had to be evacuated from their cells this morning due to flooding.
They were transferred to another garda station after flood water of up to 9mm covered some of the floors in the station.
Gardaí say they were moved as a safety precaution and the station is now fully operational.
