Gardaí have confirmed that body parts found at a waste recycling plant in Dublin belong to a man.

The lower part of a human leg was found at the Thornton's recycling plant on Killeen Road in Ballyfermot on Friday, while an upper leg was found yesterday.

The body parts were removed to Tallaght Hospital, where a post-mortem examination was carried out by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis.

DNA analysis has determined that the body parts are male, and both come from the same person.

The cause of death has yet to be determined.

A search of the plant is still under way this afternoon and is likely to last for a number of days.

A number of other items, some of which are believed to be human remains, have been recovered in the search.

No other identifiable limbs have been found.
