A Presbyterian minister in his 50s has died following a diving accident last night in Co Donegal.
Dr Stewart Jones, of Donemana Presbyterian Church in Co Tyrone, who was an accomplished diving instructor, was struck by a freak wave.
The divers had got into difficulty close to the shore at St John's Point, Co Donegal.
The Coast Guard helicopter was sent to the scene after the alert was raised at 4.30pm.
The man already taken to shore where CPR was being applied.
Bundoran lifeboat, with the crew continuing to apply CPR, then transferred the victim to the nearby White Strand area.
He was then transferred to the helicopter and airlifted to Sligo General Hospital, where he died.
The other diver in his 30s was also transferred to Sligo General Hospital.
Rev Jones was a qualified diving instructor who enjoyed investigating the sea waters off Donegal.
He had been in Donemana for the past 10 years.
