A diver has died and a second diver is missing after getting into difficulty off the Cork coast.
The two men, understood to be English, were diving on a wreck off Castlehaven, near Glandore, when the alarm was raised at 9.40am.
They were members of a charter party on board a local boat, Wave Chieftain, which has now come ashore at Union Hall.
One diver, 66, was pulled unconscious from the water, and airlifted to Cork University Hospital where he later died.
The Valentia coastguard is co-ordinating the search operation assisted by a rescue helicopter from Waterford, Baltimore lifeboat and coastguard inshore crew.
Local divers have also joined the search operation.
LÉ Aisling is due at the search site and will take over on-site command of the search.
Navy divers are also due in Baltimore; it has been decided they will not deploy sonar scans until the morning.
A spokesman for the naval service said this is the most prudent first response, given the depth of the wreck site.
The men were diving on the wreck of a German submarine which was scuttled in 1945.
The submarine is a U-260 and lies in waters up to 45 metres deep.
John Draper, Divisional controller for Valentia Coast Guard, who is co-ordinating the search operation said the search will continue into the evening.
Mr Draper also said conditions appeared to be normal when the divers got into difficulty.
