A teenager who was seriously injured when he was attacked in Dublin last Friday night has been released from hospital.

The 16-year-old was chased by two men into a house in the Kilcronan estate in Clondalkin and attacked in the kitchen with a machete.

He lost three fingers during the attack and also sustained leg arm and hand injuries.

He was taken to Tallaght Hospital before being transferred to St James's Hospital, where he underwent surgery over the weekend.

Gardaí believe the wounds are defensive.

Gardaí are waiting to interview the teenage victim.

The attack happened between 11pm and midnight on Friday night and gardaí say the attackers were wearing hoodies.

Detectives are trying to establish a motive for the attack and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them at Clondalkin Garda Station on 01 6667600 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666111.
