Labour TD for Waterford Ciara Conway has announced that she is to be a candidate in the election for the deputy leadership of the party.
Announcing her decision in Dungarvin, Deputy Conway said if she became deputy leader, she would not seek a junior or senior ministerial appointment.
She said she wanted to represent the party without being compromised by the vested interests of cabinet or ministerial positions.
Her announcement means there are now four candidates seeking the position, the other TDs being Alan Kelly, Michael McCarthy and Sean Sherlock.
The Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton and the Minister of State at the Department of Health, Alex White, are seeking election as leader of the party.
Nominations for both positions close at midday tomorrow.
The proposer for Ms Conway's candidature was Deputy Derek Nolan and was seconded by Deputy Aodhán Ó Ríordáin.
