Thursday 15 May 2014 12.31 Two men are being treated in hospital following separate assaults in Dublin city this morning.
Both men sustained head injuries and it is thought that the attacks could be connected.
Gardaí believe the first assault in Dublin's north inner city took place following an attempted robbery on a shop in the area.
The incident happened in Summerhill at around 9.10am.
A number of people were involved and attacked a Polish man in his 30s.
The victim was hit on the head, fell and hit his head on the ground.
He was taken to the Mater Hospital, where his condition is described as serious.
Just over two hours later, a second Polish man was attacked not far away - opposite the Patrick Heaney House complex in Summerhill.
He also sustained head injuries and is also being treated in the Mater Hospital.
