New CEO and board appointed to CRC

The Central Remedial Clinic has announced a new board of governors and a new chief executive.

The former board and CEO resigned last December after it was revealed that public donations were being used to top up salaries of some senior staff.

Kieran J Timmins has been appointed chairman of the CRC board.

He is currently CEO and a founding member of SmartCentric Technologies International Ltd.

The new board members, who were selected by an independent organisation, have been drawn from a number of different disciplines and industries.

The members are voluntary and will receive no remuneration.

Stephanie Manahan has been appointed as CEO and will take up the position on 1 June.

Ms Manahan is a former Chair of the National Association of Occupational Therapists and Deputy Hospital Manager in Connolly Hospital in Dublin.

Mr Timmins said the new board "will provide the governance and leadership necessary to ensure that every cent received by the CRC is spent in a way that maximises the support of children and adults with physical disabilities".

Speaking on RTÉ's News at One, Mr Timmins said it is a top priority of the new board to implement any recommendation from reports into the charity in a speedy manner as possible.

He said that when the interim administrator's report is published in a few weeks' time, the board will meet immediately to consider its recommendations and put a plan in place for implementation as appropriate.

The other members of the board are: Emer Moriarty Crowley, a senior corporate lawyer, specialising in corporate law and governance; Damien Daly, a Director of Marketing and Customer Analytics at Bank of Ireland Group; Tom Fleming, Director of Human Resources at Volkswagen Group Ireland; Sean Hickey, Head of Information Technology for Boots Contract Manufacturing; Malcolm MacLachlan, Professor of Global Health at Trinity College Dublin and Extraordinary Professor of Rehabilitation at Stellenbosch University, South Africa; Chris McEllhinney, a chartered accountant; and Tom Quinn, a qualified barrister who retired recently having served as RTÉ Group Secretary.
