Thursday 24 April 2014 14.50 A national operation targeting the use of mobile phones while driving, is being mounted by gardaí today and tomorrow.
By lunchtime today there have been almost 300 detections for holding a mobile phone while driving.
In a statement, gardaí said mobile phone use by drivers remained a significant issue, with almost 10,000 motorists detected holding a mobile phone, in the first three months of this year.
According to research, there is a four-fold increase in the risk of having a road collision when using a mobile phone.
