Teen killed after stolen car crashes in Tipperary

A teenager has died and another boy was seriously injured when the stolen car they were travelling in crashed into a wall Co Tipperary.

The 18-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on the Birr Road at Roscrea at around 1.55am.

Gardaí said a black BMW was stolen from a car sales yard at Brosna, Birr in Co Offaly between 1am and 1.40am this morning.

The teenager's body was removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem exam will be carried out.

A 16-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the car, was seriously injured and is being treated at University Hospital Limerick.

The road has been closed for a forensic examination and local diversions are in place.
