Toddler dies after being struck by van

A three-year-old girl has died after being struck by a van in Co Laois this afternoon.

The toddler was hit by the van in St Brigid's Place in Portlaoise at about 12.20pm.

The child was pronounced dead after being rushed to the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact gardaí in Portlaoise on 057-8674100 or to call the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.
