A 58-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Mary Dargan and the attempted murder of her daughter in Tallaght in Dublin on Saturday.
James Redmond, with an address in Killinarden Estate in Tallaght, appeared before Dublin District Court this morning.
Gardaí told the court that when charged with the two offences in Tallaght Garda Station yesterday he made no reply.
Judge John Coughlan remanded Mr Redmond in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Friday 21 March at 10.30am.There was no bail application made in court today.
Legal aid was granted to Mr Redmond.
Mrs Dargan, 66, died after being shot in the head at her home in Killinarden.
Her daughter, Karina, was also shot but her injuries are not life threatening.
Judge Coughlan agreed to make a direction for Mr Redmond to undergo a psychiatric assessment while in custody.
There was shouting and heckling when Mr Redmond was being brought into the courtroom.
